Nancy Franklin in a Navy veteran of 12 years and a retired educator of 29 years. Though she no longer teaches in the public schools, she continues to mentor young people and has written a book called Sing, Birdy, Sing about increasing resilience in our chaotic world. Clay work has long been a hobby, taking classes from a nearby art center for 12 years before setting up her own studio at home. She enjoys making things for people who find pleasure in this medium.

A word from the artist:
"Franklin ClayWorks creates functional and artistic ceramics. I use a variety of stoneware, hand glaze, and fire to Cone 6 which results in food-safe pottery useful in the kitchen as it is oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. All items are either thrown, hand built, or a combination of the two.
Working with clay is an elemental effort. From the beginning of the process until it is fired, you are immersed in a constant give and take with nature. All too often the clay and the kiln decide the final form. Clay art is very relaxing and takes me into flow state of consciousness. It can be consuming, shutting out all other thought while I problem solve and imagine outcomes."
